City of Bordeaux

The core of the wine-growing region to which the appellation is named is the city of Bordeaux with a history that dates back thousands of years.

From here you will begin your journey. Both as a historic and modern location, you can explore gothic cathedrals, and renowned art museums, tour scenic gardens, visit the magnificent Place de la Bourse fountains, and the Miroir d’Eau reflecting pool plus the city's most contemporary and must-see location for wine lovers, La Cité du Vin wine museum.

The gastronomy here is top-notch for pairing regional wine while enjoying the local atmosphere at some of the best restaurants and cafes in France.

The city will become the base for your wine journey.

The Garonne and Dordogne Rivers

Two rivers divide the Bordeaux appellation into three sections:

To the west of the Garonne river lies the Left Bank. Home to the city of Bordeaux and the area known as the Médoc region. Here you will find the most highly celebrated châteaux featuring Grand Cru Classé Cabernet Sauvignon red blends.

South of the city of Bordeaux, Graves is home to the Bordeaux dry whites blended from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion grapes.

East of the Dordogne river, the Right Bank centered around the city of Libourne and the town of Saint-Émilion feature Merlot-based blends.

Between the two rivers, the Entre-Deux-Mer region offers the largest production of wines throughout Bordeaux.
